What does SEO mean?

SEO is a short term for Search Engine Optimization.
What it comes down to is to use the search engines to get visitors to a website, most SEO companies will talk about 'traffic' and have developed their own terminology that has become typical for the trade. Terms as 'SERPS', 'BackLinks', 'keywords', 'uniques' have all become very common but what it all really means is to get as much exposure and presence on the internet as possible and make a site as easy as possible for the major serch engine's 'searchbots' to crawl and index every corner of the domain and to get as much visitors as possible to your site.

So, what does that take?

First of all, it takes as many links pointing to the website as possible and this process has to be continued all the time. When the search engines find links pointing towards a certain website on various other sites they will index, crawl and update their data on the site regulary. The search engines will also assume that this website is a very popular one and therefore place it in a better position in the 'SERPS' (Search Engine Result pageS) for searches on related 'keywords'.

Second, while building those links that point back to the website it is very important to use the keywords that the website focusses on in the text links that points to the site. This to let the searchbots know what the site is about and again it makes them assume that the site is popular because of that keyword and will present it higher in the SERPS.

This takes a lot of time to contact all those sites you want a link on and also some, depending on the budget, money to pay for online advertising on websites with high traffic.
